Homes and communities in New Hamburg

Two adult lifestyle communities sit in New Hamburg: Stonecroft and Morningside. They are structured differently, which affects what you own and what you pay monthly, and their pages set out what each says about itself. Ontario has no 55+ law, so ask in writing how any age expectation appears in the governing documents and have a lawyer review them.

The Township has no hospital. WRHN lists WRHN @ Midtown, 835 King St W, and WRHN @ Queen's Blvd, 911 Queen's Blvd, in Kitchener with emergency services, and WRHN @ Chicopee at 3570 King St E. Cambridge Memorial Hospital is at 700 Coronation Blvd. Confirm services on each site.

• Wilmot Active Living Centre. It is on the main level of the Wilmot Recreation Complex at 1291 Nafziger Road in Baden, not in New Hamburg. The Township describes it as a gathering place for older adults (55+); participants need a free Active Living Centre Card. Township page.

The Nith River, flooding and insurance

GRCA's New Hamburg Flood Mitigation Study page says significant floods occurred in 1948, 1954, 1975, 2008, February 2018 and January 2020. It says much of the downtown area lies within the Nith River floodplain, and that the project produced a new floodplain model and mapping that led to amendments to GRCA's regulated area mapping, approved on June 25, 2021.
